Persuasive technology is a discipline in which digital machines and apps (e.g. smartphones, social media, gaming) are configured to alter human thoughts and behaviours. It works by deliberately creating digital environments that users feel will fulfill their basic human drives better than real-world alternatives. It plays on our most basic human drives and needs. The most basic drive for any girl is the drive to be social, have friends, and avoid being rejected socially in public. Social media platforms are designed to make girls believe they can be fully fulfilled by having a strong online presence. Girls are easily addicted to social media and this webinar looks at the reasons why and how we can respond.
